Paul McDonald, age 76, of Winterset, died peacefully surrounded by his family Monday, December 21st at Kavanagh House in Des Moines. He is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara of Winterset; loving sons, Jim (Rose Marie) of Winterset, Lonnie (wife, Robin) of Grandview, MO, and Darren of St. Charles; two cherished grandchildren, Taylor Jeane and Dakota Paul; devoted siblings, Zola Haigh, Barbara Corkrean, and Jim McDonald and wife Beverly; sisters-in-law, Viola McDonald, Dixie McDonald, and Becky Weaver Narramore; brother-in-law, Al Duane and wife Janice Weaver; special cousins-in-law, Gaylord Harris and wife LaVaun, Doris Mein, Darlene Aspedon and husband Bill; and several additional cousins, family and good friends. Preceding Paul in death were his parents; and brothers, Wayne, Harold, Scott, Leonard, and Melvin. Paul was born November 8, 1933 on the family farm in Madison County, Iowa to Wallace and Gladys Clark McDonald. He attended rural schools and later Winterset High School. He met his future wife, Barbara Weaver, at a restaurant in Winterset and later married her on November 24, 1963 in Adair County, Iowa. To this union they had three sons, James, Lonnie, and Darren. Paul loved his family and enjoyed life. He worked as an auto mechanic for many years retiring in 1996 from Irwin Auto in Winterset. Most recently he worked at O'Reilly Auto Store stocking shelves and delivering parts. Paul was a fishing enthusiast, and liked to play cribbage. He also enjoyed camping with his wife, and was a member of the Covered Bridge Campers. Visitation: Calling Hours 12 Noon to 5 p.m. with the family present to receive guest from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, December 27, 2009 at Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare. Service: 11 a.m. Monday, December 28, 2009 at Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare.
