No one in this world is perfect, but dad nearly was. Dad sacrificed everything for us and put us above everything else in his life, mainly because we were his life. He was profoundly devoted to his family. While busy working and caring for mom, dad was also a handyman to everyone. He came over whenever he could to fix whatever was broken and picked up the grandchildren from school when we were too busy with work. Not only did he dedicated his life to his family but he was also wholly committed to the Vietnamese and Catholic community. Dad spent hours upon hours preparing for buffet lunches to raise money for the Basilica, established the Second Reading to be read in Vietnamese during mass, and organized Lunar New Years for the Vietnamese community at St. John’s. He also encouraged other priests to come in from out of state to come and speak to the Vietnamese community in Des Moines. Dad has sacrificed immense amounts of his life for us and for his community in order to leave the world a better place for the rest of us. It is difficult to describe dad in so few words, but he was a loving husband, an extraordinary father, a selfless grandfather, a generous friend, a noble man, and a nearly perfect person. Dad was the foundation of our family, and it will not be the same without you. Thank you for being you and thank you for everything you have done.
