Phillip Donaciano Muñoz, 91, the son of Donaciano and Maria (Barcena) Muñoz, was born on September 4, 1933, in Valley Junction, Iowa. He was married to Evelyn Rivera for 71 years and devoted his life to his family, as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend.
He was a member of Our Lady of the Americas (Visitation) Catholic Church, a fourth-degree knight of the Knights of Columbus, Council No. 14267. He was a member of American Legion Post 0659.
Phillip retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 40 years of service. In his retirement, he was a Spanish interpreter for the Des Moines Police Department.
He had over 36 years of service in the U.S. armed forces including the Army, Army National Guard, Navy Reserve, and Army Reserve. He retired in 1993 as a Chief Warrant Officer.
Phillip died peacefully Saturday morning, February 8, 2025 at the Iowa Veterans Community Living Center in Des Moines, IA.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son Michael T. Muñoz; sisters Carmen Luevano, Vigie Rocha Fry, and Mary Pritchard; brothers Joe, Dick, Manuel, Lupe, Jose, Manuel, and Tomas. Phillip is survived by his wife, Evelyn Muñoz; his children Ann Ellyson (Craig), Stephen, Phillip Jr. (Brenda), Julie Morrison (Mike), Veronica Poggensee (Jeff), Matthew (Annette), Vincent, and Justine Carpenter (Alec). He was a loving grandfather to Kelli, Kate (Ryan), Pamela (Adam), Nicholas (Makena), Lucas, Jacob, Jessica, Johnathan, Jeffrey, Andrew, David, Lauren, Mark, Haley, Aliya, and Sebastian; and great grandfather to Austin, Clayton, Anthony, and Juniper. He is also survived by a brother, John Muñoz.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 12th, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home & Crematory (8201 Hickman Rd, Urbandale, Iowa) Rosary will also follow at 6:30 p.m. Holy Mass will be held on Thursday, February 13th, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Americas Church (1271 E. 9th. Des Moines, Iowa).
