Rachel Stasi

Rachel Stasi, 87 passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Monday, September 19, 2016. She was born in Des Moines, Iowa to Michael & Rosa Funaro. Rachel was a loving wife and mother devoting much of her time to helping others while working at Lutheran Social Services. Always strong in spirit with love for family and friends, she continued working most of her life retiring at age 80. Rachel is preceded in death by her loving husband, Samuel and her eldest son John. Surviving children, Maria (Dan) Sloan, Des Moines, IA, Michelle (Erich) Thurmann, Chesterfield, MO, Melinda (Joe) Brusseau, Geneva, IL. Along with her five grandchildren, Claire, Kurt, Ryan, Kyle and Zachary. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Kay Troupe of Oelwein, IA and sister, Anna Ruggiero of Des Moines, IA. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 24, 2016 at St. Mary of Nazareth 4600 Meredith Drive, Des Moines, IA 50310. Burial services will follow at Glendale Cemetery. The family wishes to extend their appreciation to the Doctors, Nurses and staff at Wesley Acres Austin Center. In lieu of flowers, donations to Make a Wish Iowa or St. Mary’s of Nazareth. “God hears…even when it’s just a whisper of the heart.”
