Ramon Arthur Monthei, son of Albert Rudolph Monthei and Anna Edna Cox Monthei was born February 10, 1927 on a farm near Jefferson, Iowa and died May 30, 2006 on that same farm near Jefferson at the age of 79 years, 3 months and 20 days. Bane, as he was well known grew up in Jefferson and graduated from Jefferson High School with the Class of 1944. After high school Bane attended Coe College in Cedar Rapids where he played the trumpet in their band. After leaving Coe College in 1945, Bane joined the Navy Reserves and was sent to the Marshall Islands during World War II. Bane then returned to Jefferson. On June 5, 1948 Bane was united in marriage to Hazel Joyce Maile at the Central Christian Church in Jefferson. They were the proud parents of four children: Debra, Randal, Sharon and Frederick. The family purchased the Hardin #2 school and had it moved to their farm and renovated it into their home later adding more additions. Bane was a long time farmer in the Jefferson area. Bane loved golf and would often keep up on the weather to see if he could hit the course. He also loved to play cards especially poker and pinochle. He could also be found teaching the grandkids how to play dominoes. Bane was a member of the Central Christian Church in Jefferson, a pinochle club and a 20 plus member of a poker club. He was preceded in death by his parents a brother Fred and an infant brother. Bane is survived by his wife Hazel of Jefferson; 2 daughters: Debra Monthei and her friend Mark Manske of South Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Sharon Monthei and her friend Jennifer Dunnam of Minneapolis, Minnesota; 2 sons: Randal Monthei and his wife Cindy of Jefferson and Frederick Monthei and his friend Jeanne Sarnosky of West Yarmouth, Massachusetts; 8 grandchildren: Jacob Nelson and his wife Megan of London, England, Matthew Nelson of South Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Amanda Kinne and her husband Kyle of Jefferson, Andrew Monthei of Cedar Rapids, Damon Monthei of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Nickolas, Jordan and Sean Monthei all of Green Bay, Wisconsin; 1 brother: Wayne Monthei and his wife Pat of Jefferson; 1 sister: Gladys Moranville of Des Moines, Iowa; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
