Raymond Eugene Lane, son of Mae Cannon and Richard Lane was born April 4, 1922 in Perry and died January 27, 2014 at the Perry Healthcare Center at the age of 91 years, 9 months and 24 days. Raymond was raised in the Perry area and attended Perry Schools. Raymond worked doing custom farming, for the railroad as a brakeman, for Swift Packing Company and Progressive Foundry. On February 14, 1943 Raymond married Thelma Johnson in the living room of her parents' home that they later lived in until going into the Perry Healthcare Center. Raymond served in the United States Army from 1945-1946 in the 274th Armored Field Artillery Battalion as a tank driver. The couple had one son, Terry, who died on August 13, 1994. Raymond had a seventeen year love of CB radios. He enjoyed fishing and especially loved watching Thelma crochet and would comment that she was always ripping it out and doing it over and didn't make any headway all day long. He was a faithful member of the Perry First Baptist Church and of the Perry Post #85 American Legion. Raymond was preceded in death by his parents; loving wife Thelma on January 17, 2014; son, Terry Ray Lane; four sisters; Goldie Keiger, Esther Ellett, Lucille Thompson and June Ulrich. Raymond is survived by special friends Chris and Tami Strait of Granger, nieces and nephews, cousins and many friends. www.hastings.com
