Raymond Tryon

July 24, 1922 — November 30, 2007

Raymond Tryon, son of Theodore Raymond Tryon and Myrtle Nancy Jane Hunt Tryon, was born July 24, 1922 in Defiance, Iowa, and died November 30, 2007 at his home in Perry, Iowa, at the age of 85 years, 4 months and 6 days. Ray, as he was fondly called, attended rural school and graduated from Defiance High School in 1940. He worked for his brother and then at CCC Camp at Missouri Valley, Iowa. He entered the U.S. Navy, serving during WW II from 1942 to 1946. Ray saw duty in the South Pacific. He was united in marriage with Gladys "Peg" Blackwell on May 8, 1946. They were parents of three children: Robert, Ronald, and Vicki. Ray worked for his brother in Glidden before purchasing his own business, Tryon Produce in 1947. He operated that business until 1960 when he became owner of his second business, Tryon Trucking. Ray worked under contract with Hy-Line in Johnston for several years. He then worked for 16 years at Oscar Mayer in Perry until he retired in 1983. Ray and Peg had moved into Perry in 1972. He and Peg enjoyed bowling and he was active in several leagues. Ray played cards, ping pong, and pitched horseshoes. Because of his basketball ability in High School and being the high scorer for the 1940 Shelby County Champions in 1940, he always remained interested in all sports. Ray had the interest and ability to quote facts and figures on all sports players. He was a voracious reader, pouring over the newspapers, Wall Street Journal and other financial publications. Ray was an astute stock market and financial buff. His yard was always meticulously kept. Ray was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Clarence and James Tryon, and sister Nona Mae Densmore. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Peg; sons Bob Tryon and wife Deb of Adel, Iowa; Ron Tryon and wife Pam of Adel, Iowa; daughter Vicki "Tori" Criswell of Lakewood, Colorado; 7 grandchildren, Scott Tryon and wife Laura; Kristi Fuller and husband Brad; Jason Tryon and wife Laura; Carrie Blackburn and husband Josh; David Tryon; Laurie Dawes and husband Colby; and Trent Criswell; 6 great grandchildren, Mackenzie, Gage, and Zachary Fuller; Briley and Carter Tryon; and Braylon Dawes; sister Helen Nielsen of Florida; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
