Richard Louis Carzoli, age 76, of Huntsville, Alabama, passed away, Tuesday, November 1, 2016 from complications due to Alzheimer’s disease. Born in Ankeny, Iowa, March 24, 1940, to Leno and Rose (Fontanini) Carzoli, Richard was a pilot at a young age, following his love for airplanes. He graduated from Ankeny High School in 1958, graduated from Drake University in 1964 and enlisted in the U.S. Army. Richard served two tours in Vietnam where he earned the Bronze Star. He graduated with a Masters of Telecommunications Engineering from the University of Colorado in Boulder in 1975. Richard graduated from Command and General Staff College in 1979 and continued his service in the U.S. Army, retiring as Lieutenant Colonel in 1987. He later retired from Northrop Grumman. Richard was an outstanding chef and had a strong passion for good food, good wine, lifetime friendships and most of all, his family. He is survived by the love of his life, and wife of 48 years, Judith (Moran) Carzoli; his daughters, of whom he was so proud, Erin Inman and her husband Bill, and daughter, Jennifer Carzoli; his grandchildren, Austin Aiello, Maggie Inman and Kyle Inman; his brother, Ron Carzoli and his wife, Diana, and their two children, Christopher and Andrea; and his standard poodle, Bella. Visitation will be held at Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Huntsville, AL on Sunday, November 6, 2016 from 4:00pm to 6:00pm. The funeral service will be held at 10:00am Monday, November 7, 2016 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Huntsville. Graveside services and interment with Military Honors will be held at Beaver Catholic Cemetery, Granger, Iowa, on Friday, November 11, 2016 at 10:00am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association www.alz.org/donate.
