Richard D. Boies - Adel

Richard D. "Dick" Boies passed away Wednesday, April 2, 2014 at his home. Memorial Services will be 10:30 AM Saturday, April 5th at St. John's Catholic Church in Adel, with burial at Van Meter Cemetery. Friends may call after 3 PM Friday at McCalley Funeral Home in Adel, where family will greet friends from 5-7 PM, with prayer service at 7 PM. Dick was born August 27, 1952 in Belle Plaine, IA.He graduated from Benton Community HS in Van Horne in 1970. Dick earned his degree in Phys Ed from UNI and began teaching in the Van Meter Schools in 1974 and became the Athletic Director for 28 years until his retirement in 2007. He was a basketball referee for many years and was inducted into the Referee Hall of Fame by the Iowa Girls Coaches Association in 2004. Dick was an avid Hawkeye fan, also enjoyed golfing, and would visit a friend in Arizona for a few days of golf during spring break. He is survived by his wife Dusty Morrison, mother Nancy, son Matt, step-daughters Lisa Umbaugh and Trista Hills, brothers Jim and Bill, sisters Terri Buelow, Barb DeMeulenaere, and Cathy Lentz, and many nieces and nephews. Dick was preceded in death by his father Robert Boies, and step-grandson Devin Umbaugh. Memorial Contributions may be directed to Wesley Life Hospice or Van Meter Athletic Boosters.
