Richard "Dick" Grimes

Richard “Dick” Frederick Grimes, 70, of Earlham, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Thursday, May 13, 2021. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 19, 2021 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home, Winterset Chapel. Dick was born on June 20, 1950 to Richard and Esther (Frederick) Grimes in Des Moines, Iowa. On February 6, 1971 he married the love of his life, Nikki Reed in Winterset, Iowa. The two most recently enjoyed their 50th wedding anniversary this year. Dick enjoyed his long career in the printing business with Edwards Graphic Art in Des Moines. He started his career at the bottom running the printing press and eventually worked his way up to become the director of printing, or in the words of a co-worker, he was the “Professor of Printing”. Dick was also a family man. He loved his kids, grandkids and great grandkids more than life itself. He attended as many school and sporting events possible to show his support. He also enjoyed traveling with his family taking them on many trips to places like Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming, the Black Hills in South Dakota, and to Pittsburg, Pennsylvania. He would often bring along his cribbage board and cards as he loved to play. The joy his family brought him was insurmountable. Dick was a huge Chicago Cubs fan and enjoyed watching them play when he got the chance. He was also known to like reading a good book and would frequent the local libraries to find his next read. He loved talking to people and enjoyed the many front porch conversation he had over the years with friends, family and neighbors. He was a knowledgeable man, and will be extremely missed by those who knew him. Dick was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Esther Grimes; his daughter, Stacy Lynn Grimes Taylor; and an infant daughter, baby Grimes. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Nikki; son, Richard Reed Grimes (Deborah); daughter, Kristina Lee Grimes (Michael); sisters, Sheryl Arnburg (Gary), and Beverly Wood; 5 grandchildren, Melanie (Antonio), Isaac, Zoe, Olivia, and Avery; and 2 great grandchildren, Xavier and Adilynn.
