Richard Edward Sandal, son of John Sandal and Amelia Larson Sandal, was born January 14, 1928 in Fort Dodge, Iowa and died May 15, 2008 at the Perry Lutheran Home in Perry, Iowa at the age of 80 Years, 4 Months, and 1 Day. Dick graduated from Fort Dodge High School and from the University of Iowa. He served during WWII in the Army Air Corps. Dick was the Director of the Perry Chamber of Commerce from 1953-1965, and then moved to Stevens Point, Wisconsin to be Chamber Director there. Dick married Carmon Erickson in 1960 and they were parents of two children, Tom and Jeanie. Dick and Carmon moved back to the Minburn area in 1977 and in 1989 moved to Perry. Dick worked for the State of Iowa from 1978 to 2005 in water quality control. He was an avid Hawkeye and Green Bay Packers fan. Dick enjoyed visiting with people and dining out, and was a very spur of the moment person. He and Carmon had enjoyed their many trips together, mainly out West but also to New York and Washington D.C. Dick had been a member of the Rotary and Jaycees. He was preceded in death by his parents, half-brother, Louis Larson; son-in-law, Scott Campbell; and infant granddaughter, Angel Campbell. Dick is survived by his wife, Carmon of Perry; son, Tom (Lucy) Smith of Plover, Wisconsin; daughter, Jeanie Campbell of Minburn; 5 grandchildren, Scott E. Campbell, Dallas Smith, David Smith, Nicole (Aaron) King, and Holly (Don) Ellerman; 12 great-grandchildren, Alexander Smith, Danielle Smith, Ashley Campbell, Kaitlyn Ellerman, Jordan Nevitt, Connor King, Abigail Ellerman, Tanner King, Brayden King, Austin Smith, Dayton Zander ,and Even Smith; other relatives and friends.
