A memorial service will be held 11 a.m., Friday, January 6, 2012 at the First Christian Church in Winterset. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Middle River Hospice of Winterset. Richard Lee Scroggs was born February 26, 1938 in Des Moines, Iowa, the son of Hubert and Helen (Mish) Scroggs. His marriage to Beverly Gardiner took place in 1958 and to this union three sons were born. He later married Jeanne Ferguson on January 15, 2004 at the First Christian Church in Winterset. Richard worked as a printer most of his working career and was a printing instructor at DMACC in Ankeny for 20 years. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Winterset. He became a lay minister serving as the pastor for the Fairview Church near Stuart and a nursing home chaplain in Winterset. He was a talented photographer and was proud to have had many of his images displayed in various places around Winterset and Des Moines. He also loved writing and was a founding member of the Des Moines Area Writers Group. Richard died on Monday, January 2, 2012 at the Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset. He was 73. Richard is survived by his wife, Jeanne of Winterset; three sons, Craig (Kim) Scroggs of Naperville, IL; Jeff (Christi) Scroggs of Vancouver, WA; Jason (Ellen) Scroggs of Greenville, SC; a sister, Susan Miller; a step-son, Matthew (Corissa) Guerrero of North Hollywood, CA; five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law, Paul Miller.
