Richard Lawrence Spurgeon

Richard Lawrence Spurgeon, age 70, passed away November 12, 2020, at his residence in Des Moines. A native of Bloomfield, IA, Richard was a self-employed business owner. During his career he worked as a recruiter for the National Education Center. Following a move to Oklahoma City, he was employed by Southern Tech. Upon his return to Iowa he owned Turtle Bay Spas, and during retirement he purchased and owned Porky’s Diner. Richard enjoyed riding his motorcycle in his free time. He is survived by one daughter, Melissa Spurgeon, one nephew, Travis (Ashley) Hunter, and one brother, Mike (Cindy) Spurgeon. He was preceded in death by his parents, Patty and Ronald Spurgeon, one brother, Denny Spurgeon, and one niece, Sara Spurgeon. No services are scheduled. The family requests no flowers.
