Richard Mclaughlin

Richard Joseph McLaughlin, the son of the late John McLaughlin and Alice McCusker, was born January 18, 1928 in Des Moines, Iowa. He attended school in Winterset along with his four sisters and two brothers, and later graduated with the Class of 1946. He is survived by his wife, Eleanor of Des Moines; a son, Steven (wife, Aysel) of Norfolk, VA; three grandchildren, Peter, Brianna, and Gregory; four sisters, Patricia Corkrean of Winterset, IA, Helen Morehouse of Lincoln, NE, Celine Waring of Omaha, NE, and Jane Weist of Denver, CO; and a brother, Michael McLaughlin of Omaha, NE. Richard was united in marriage to Eleanor Carroll, and to this union a son, Steven, was born. They made their home in Des Moines where he worked as a driver in the construction industry until his retirement. In his free-time Richard enjoyed playing pool. During the past several years, Richard's health continued to decline. On Thursday morning, March 4, 2010, he passed away at the Granger Nursing and Rehab where he resided. He lived 82 years, 1 month and 14 days. Preceding him in death were his parents and a brother, John McLaughlin. Visitation: Immediately following funeral mass at March 8, 2010, at St. Patrick's Irish Settlement Cemetery Service: 10:30 a.m. Monday March 8, 2010 at St. Patrick's Irish Settlement Catholic Church, Cumming, Iowa Memorial: In lieu of flowers memorials to St. Patrick's Irish Settlement Catholic Church in Richard's name will be accepted.
