Richard "Bones" Welch, 45, of Winterset, Iowa, died Friday, May 23, 2014 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 AM Friday, May 30, 2014, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Winterset with Father Dan Kirby officiating. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery at Stuart, Iowa. Richard was born on January 1, 1969, at Des Moines, Iowa to Larry and Nancy (Brunsman) Welch. He had been a lifetime resident of Winterset and a 1987 graduate of Winterset High School. Bones had been working at Watters Autoland in Indianola since 1988 as a parts runner in their parts department. He was a hard worker and dedicated to his job. He was avid worker at various auto racetracks around the state, always working the third corner. He also was instrumental in getting the racetrack ready for the drivers. Richard is survived by his mother, Nancy (Brunsman) Welch of Winterset; sister, Kimberly Ann Welch (Jeff Lowe) of Olathe, Kansas; grandmother, Maxine Brunsman of Winterset; and niece, Olivia Rose Lowe. He was preceded in death by his father, Larry Welch; and grandparents, Richard Brunsman and John and Lois Welch. Family will receive friends Thursday from 5 to 8 PM at St. Joseph Catholic Church with the wake service at 7:30 PM. Memorials may be directed to his family for a future designation.
