Richard “Rich” was born on October 21, 1960 in Boston, MA to Ken and Tina Canham. Rich was a hard worker with everything he did. He graduated from Johnson and Wales Culinary Institute with a Bachelor's Degree in Restaurant and Hotel Management. He worked for Marriott Hotels, Chi-Chi’s, and Cracker Barrel throughout the beginning of his career. He spent his remaining 30 years as a Director for the Iowa Correctional Institute for Women. Rich retired in 2020 and worked on various home improvement projects with his son, Ben. Rich and Kristen took many trips to the southern states during the winter months. He enjoyed golfing with his wife, having lunch dates with his daughter, Baily, and cheering on the New England Patriots. He loved to watch all kinds of sports. He spoke on the phone often with his brother, Paul, and made sure to visit his stepmother Joan and his sister Kathi when he and Kristen went on road trips.
His laugh would fill a room and he had a great sense of humor. He spoke with his hands and made his opinion known. He will be greatly missed by those who knew him.
He is survived by his wife Kristen of West Des Moines, IA; his son Ben (Susanna Stageberg) Canham of Waukee, IA; his daughter Baily (Nathan) Gerlach of Grimes, IA; his stepmother, Joan Canham; his three brothers, Ken (Lil) Canham, Paul (Eileen) Canham, and David Canham; his sister, Kathi Canham; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ken and Tina Canham, and his sister Sandra Dixon.
