Rickey Gheer

May 20, 1957 — August 18, 2009

Rickey was born May 20, 1957 in Davenport, Iowa; the son of Ivyl and Maxine (Wise) Gheer. He graduated from Norwalk High School and later attended college. He served in the United States Army for ten years. His marriage to Connie Cave took place on September 26, 2000 in Des Moines, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Dewell and Elta Wise; and his paternal grandparents, Albert and Alice Gheer. Rickey worked as a manager for Aqualand in Des Moines for ten years. He was a rodeo judge for thirteen years and was a member of the URA (United Rodeo Association) and IRCA (Iowa Rodeo Cowboys Association). He enjoyed collecting toys, marbles, rocks and he had a love of small animals, especially birds. Rickey is survived by his wife, Connie of Orient; his parents, Ivyl and Maxine Gheer of Osceola; six children, Amber Dickerson (J.D.) of Corpus Christi, TX; Katy Lambert (Kevin) of Brownwood, TX; Kendra Chism (Kerry) of Brownwood, TX; Risa Cave of Clive; Lincoln Steele of Orient; Leanna Gheer of Orient; one brother, Rusty Gheer (Lynn) of Centerville; eight grandchildren, Lillian, Madisyn, Rylee, and Dylan Dickerson, Trent Chism, Jaylen Savage, and Noah and Nicholas Lambert. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.,Saturday, August 22, 2009 at Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare in Winterset, Iowa.
