Robert "Bob" Francis Dowson

Robert "Bob" Francis Dowson, 97, passed away on January 26, 2018. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary of Nazareth Catholic Church on January 30, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the mass and burial will follow the service at Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines. Bob was born May 14, 1920, in Lone Tree, Iowa, to Scott and Virginia (State) Dowson. He served his country in the Marine Corps during World War II. He was a graduate of Iowa State University. Bob was an avid fisherman, a lifelong member of the Izaac Walton League and the 2008 recipient of the WHO Radio Sportsman of the Year Award. He was also a founding member of St. Mary of Nazareth Catholic Church in Des Moines.  He was preceded in death by his brother Warren Dowson, wife Patricia (Menough) Dowson, and son Daniel Dowson. Those left to cherish his memory are his children Mary (David Halverson) Dowson, Jane (Brian) Pulford, John Dowson; daughter-in-law Lisa Dowson; grandchildren Brette and Blake Dowson, Sean Halverson, Robert and Luis Pulford; as well as other nieces, nephews and friends.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mary of Nazareth, the Izaac Walton League or the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
