Robert Charles Gilmer

Robert Charles Gilmer, 69, of Grimes, IA passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, June 29, 2024.

Robert was born in Des Moines on May 9, 1955 to William Gilmer and Grace (Crouse) Gilmer. He was raised alongside his 4 siblings in Adel and graduated from Adel High School.

Those who knew Bob would describe him as outgoing and friendly.  He was known for finding someone he knew wherever he went.  He spoke fondly of working for the railroad in his late twenties.  Bob had a deep love for horses that developed as a youth spending time with his uncle Charlie.

Bob was a member of Panther Creek Church of the Brethren throughout his life. He served his church family as a member of various committees and operating the church’s sound system.

Robert is preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Kathryn Reed, and his brother, Thomas Gilmer.

He is survived by his partner of 17 years, Paula Roys; his son, Travis Gilmer; his brothers, Bill (Marcia) Gilmer and David Gilmer, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial service for Robert will be held at 10:30 am on Thursday, July 11, 2024 at Panther Creek Church of the Brethren, 24529 J Ave, Adel, IA 50003. Burial will follow at Panther Creek Church Cemetery.
