Robert L. “Bob” Copic, 78, passed away on November 27, 2020 at the Good Samaritan Society in Indianola, Iowa. Robert was born June 4, 1942 in Des Moines, Iowa and lived in Des Moines for many years before moving to Ankeny then to the Dexter/Earlham area. He graduated from East High School in 1961. He joined the United States Marine Corps in 1961 and was a Vietnam vetreran serving until 1967. He served as a Des Moines police officer for 9 years and spent several years working as a mechanic. In later years he worked in maintenance at Wal-Mart and enjoyed playing Santa Claus there and other places. He was active in the Boy Scouts for many years and was a big fan of John Wayne and old western movies. He is preceded in death by his father Lloyd G. Copic; his sister, Linda Cogshall and his sister, Dottie Anderson. He is survived by his sister Peggy Ross of Cleveland, Tennessee; his sons and daughters-in-law: Clint and Reyna Copic, Wade and Courtney Copic and Grant and Cathy Copic all of Des Moines, five grandchildren, Breanna, Kevin, Abby, Grant Jr. and Kaydee and three great grandchildren (Damien, Aubree and Nina). The family would like to thank the doctors and staff at the VA Hospital in Des Moines, Edencrest in Beaverdale and The Good Samaritan Society in Indianola. A special thanks to his daughter-in-law and “nurse” Reyna for her care and support the last few years. Private family services will be held.
