Robert Eugene Cummings

Robert Eugene Cummings, son of Roland Thomas Cummings and Irma Margaret Baker Cummings was born July 26, 1924 in Grand Junction, Iowa, and died March 20, 2008 at the Greene County Medical Center in Jefferson, Iowa at the age of 83 years, 7 months, and 24 days. Bob attended school in Grand Junction. Following his schooling, he worked for Gump Lamb Machine Shop. Later he was an independent trucker for Red Mount from 1950 to 1960. Bob worked as a bus driver and maintenance worker for East Greene Schools from 1960 to 1972. It was during those years that he enjoyed his business of selling Honda recreational vehicles. He then purchased his own truck and worked for Parkers from 1973 to 1974. Bob returned to East Greene Schools as a janitor from 1974 to 1980 when he again purchased a truck and worked for Commercial Services for 10 years. Bob married Gladys Anderson on July 3, 1943. They were parents of 5 sons: Jack, Jerry, Tim, Tom, and Roger. They raised their sons in Grand Junction and after Gladys' death in 1996, Bob continued to live in Grand Junction. Bob was a member of the Grand Junction United Methodist Church and was a volunteer fireman, having served as Chief. As a couple Bob and Gladys enjoyed square dancing and camping. He also liked to hunt, fish, bowl, and do mechanical work of all types. Bob's years as a school bus driver were very special to him. Bob was preceded in death by his parents; his step father Merle Alvord; brothers Harold and Larry and sisters Betty Moranville and Doris Moranville. He is survived by his sons: Jack and wife Nan of Grand Junction; Jerry and wife Marty of Spring, Texas; Tim of Grand Junction; Tom and wife Linda of Willow Springs, Missouri; and Roger and wife Jennifer Scott of Los Gatos, California; 11 grandchildren: Dani Dayton and husband Galen of Jefferson; Carrie Cummings of Los Gatos, California; Sarah and Danny Cummings of Spring, Texas; Cassie Fiedler and husband John Paul of Churdan; Ashley Wyatt and husband Sean of Bouton; Corey Cummings of Ft. Dodge, Kelley Lowe and husband Billy of Grand Junction; Kristen Russell and husband P.J. of Grand Junction; Kale Cummings of Fort Dodge; and Eduard Scott-Cummings of Los Gatos, California; 9 great grandchildren: Catelyn, Dylan, Drake and Chace Cummings and Tia, Tori, Billy, Kaden, and Teagen Lowe. Bob is also survived by his sister Janice Krause of Jefferson and brother Jim and his wife Diane of Hickman, Nebraska; )Gladys' family Nieces, nephews, his many school bus kids, other relatives and friends.
