Robert M. Casper

August 8, 1939 — May 3, 2024

Robert M. Casper, 84, of Winterset, passed away on Friday, May 3, 2024 at the Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset. He leaves behind a legacy of love, dedication, and service to his family, friends, and community.

Robert Mueller Casper was born in Winterset, Iowa on August 8, 1939 to Robert E. and Gretchen (Mueller) Casper. He graduated from Winterset High School in 1957, graduated from Drake University, and served in the Air National Guard. He was united in marriage to Margaret Marie “Peggy” Martin on December 30, 1961.

Bob loved owning BB & P and running his farm. He was a steward of the land, from his early days of farming making terraces with a tractor and plow. He loved traveling and particularly enjoyed his trips to Russia and China. He loved politics and history, with a passion for reading about World War II. For several years he could not find a book about World War II he had not read.

Bob was always up for a round of golf with friends and loved getting together with his Wednesday night supper group. He had his private pilot’s license and enjoyed attending fly-in breakfasts with friends. Bob and Peggy never missed a Saturday date night or a community dance. He enjoyed supporting many community, school and agricultural activities. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife and favorite dance partner, Peggy; his children, Kimberly (Randy) Bruett, Robert J. Casper, Michelle (Rick) Barker; grandchildren, Zachary (Breanna), Joshua, and Bradley Bruett, Kyra, Kailey, and Kellen Casper, and Quinn Barker; great-grandchildren, Allison, Henry, and Evelyn Bruett; Sadie and Kaylee Songer; sister, Sue (Ron) Baker; brother, John (Lyneé) Casper; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert E. and Gretchen Casper.
