Robert “Rob” McAllister, 57, passed away on September 13, 2022 surrounded by family and friends. He was born on September 25, 1964 in Des Moines, Iowa. He graduated from high school in Horseshoe Bend, Arkansas, then attended college at Central Missouri State University where he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Communications. He hosted the radio show Confessin’ the Blues in the Kansas City area, met a lot of blues artists, and concluded every show by saying “Keep The Faith”. He was united in marriage to Cassie Carns in Hopeville, Iowa in 1995. He met her at a radio station in Osceola where they both worked and she became his Lil’ Boo. The two were almost immediately inseparable, choosing each other every day of their over 32 years together.
Almost every Sunday, Rob and Cassie would have an “Oasis Day” where they would sit on their deck and sip coffee while Rob read her nearly his entire Facebook feed…out loud. They loved to travel together, especially to Key West — the original Oasis. Rob was an amazing cook, loved classic cars and guitars, blues and metal, and was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs, Kansas City Chiefs, and Pittsburgh Penguins.
Rob worked with the American Red Cross mobile blood unit for a decade and most recently was employed at Life Serve in the blood components lab. He took great pride doing work that helps save lives and felt very fulfilled by that mission.
Rob is survived by Cassie, his wife of 27 years; birth mother Darlene Burke; sister Susan Wiseman; brother Jim (Dawn) Stonehocker; half-brother Rob “the other Rob” (Victoria) Burke; cousin Steve Dodd; God son Cole Lammers; honorary grandchildren Maeleigh and Emmalyn Yeager and their parents Logan and Heather Yeager; “The Vegas Brothers”; 3 furry children Tortie, Ozzy and Cootie; and innumerable family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents Don and Lois McAllister; half-sister Sharon (Jerry) Thompson; half-brother David Burke; aunt Dorothy Langel; and dear friend Courtland VanArsdale.
A visitation will be held on Monday, September 19, 2022 from 4:00-5:00 p.m. with a celebration of life to follow at 5:00 p.m. all at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home in Urbandale. Casual dress is strongly encouraged; vacation attire (shorts, Hawaiian shirts, fedoras) will be revered.
In lieu of flowers, please consider saving a life by donating blood or making another type of memorial donation to Life Serve.
