Robert ‘Bob’ Edward Moore passed away unexpectedly April 9, 2025, in his sleep at the age of 85. He was born in Ithaca, NY, on March 29, 1940, to Marguerite Elizabeth Northway and Edward James Moore Jr. as the oldest of nine children; Jim (Glenda) Moore, Dave (Joan) Moore, John Moore, Connie (Jim) Gordon, Paul (Ginny) Moore, Kathie (Al) Arroyo, Mike (Laurie) Moore and Ed (Donna) Moore].
He was married happily for 63 years to Donna (Tidd) Moore and was a father to three children, Greg (Kim) Moore, Kristen (Matthew) Goodlaxson, and Brian (Dawn) Moore. He was also a proud grandfather to ten grandchildren, Zachary (Chelsea), Brandon, Karley, Ella, Savannah, Piper, Hudson, Kendall, Kalvin, and Dillon. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Marguerite, his brother, John, and his oldest son, Greg.
He was a dedicated CPA and audit partner with Deloitte for 35 years in New York, Brazil, and North Carolina, a financial leader and board member at St. Kateri Tekakwitha (f/k/a St Cecilias) and St. Paul the Apostle church in Greensboro, NC and an active community volunteer no matter where he lived. He was named Honorary Trustee for the Strong National Museum of Play and an active board member of NC A&T State University in Greensboro, NC. He served as president of Rochester Rotary, International, and was actively involved in Junior Achievement.
Bob made friends wherever he went. To him, life was a series of ‘God-incidences’, and eagles were a symbol of his spirituality (although his faith alone was not enough to carry the Bills to a Superbowl win). His humor was equal parts funny, mischievous, and eye-rolling. He had a zest for life and embraced the mantra “Service above Self”. He sacrificed for others and would give anything for his family.
He and Donna thrived for 63 years because of humor, patience, self-deprecation, and love. Together they had many adventures centered on community, service, and travel. Rochester, NY was their first home and where Greg was born. After just a few years, they moved to Brazil where they immersed themselves in community theater and welcomed Kristen and Brian to the family.
Bob’s job took them to Greensboro, NC, where they raised their family. They opened their home to: foreign exchange students from Brazil, Germany, and Colombia; traveling professional golfers from the LPGA and Junior Miss North Carolina contestants. Bob returned to his family roots in Rochester, NY, to enjoy closer proximity to extended family before retiring and eventually moving to Iowa.
His kids and grandkids were his pride and joy and he showed his love through listening and engagement in their lives even if that meant distant travels. You could find him on the sidelines of many sporting events, band, orchestra, dance and theater performances, art displays, graduations, confirmations, baptisms, and weddings. His grandchildren shared these thoughts and memories: Zachary remembers Papa saying “It won’t get towed”, only to return to an empty parking space. Karley would say turkey, turkey, turkey to Papa’s waddle. Brandon shared ‘fly like an eagle, Papa’. Savannah remembers Papa’s ability to nap anywhere and snore musically. Ella shared that Papa was the only man that could get her to smile without a “creep factor”. Piper remembers he always sang “Do you know how much I love you”. Hudson and Kendall thought of Papa as cheerful, funny and loving.
Bob/Dad/Papa is terribly missed and his absence leaves a big hole in the heart of all he loved.
