Anita Ruth Thompson, daughter of Edward and Nellie (Blair) Beard, was born April 12, 1928 in Afton, Iowa. Robert Clair Thompson, son of Clyde and Grace (Grandfield) Thompson was born January 27, 1928 in Lorimor, Iowa. Robert served in the Army during the end of WWII. The couple was united in marriage on June 18, 1950 at the Methodist Church in Afton. Robert and Ruth were very caring people and adopted their three children. They adopted their twin boys, Rodney Donald and Ronald Dale, in December of 1959 and adopted their daughter, Ruth Ann, in August of 1961. Robert worked at Ford Motor Company for most of his working career. Ruth was a homemaker and raised their three children. Robert was a “Jack of All Trades”. He was a talented woodworker and had a green thumb. Ruth was the glue of the family. She was an amazing cook and an avid reader, especially of the Bible. After Robert and Ruth retired, they enjoyed traveling with the Airstream Club. Robert was a past president and Ruth was a past secretary of the club. Ruth died December 12, 2014 in Cameron, Missouri; she was 86. Robert died January 24, 2018 in Elk City, Oklahoma; he was 89. The couple is survived by their three children, Rodney Thompson of Bloomington, MN; Ronald Thompson of Port Charlotte, FL; Ruthie Rice of Woodward, OK; sister, Fern Beard; extended family and a host of friends. They were preceded in death by both sets of parents, Ruth’s siblings, Donald Beard and Francis Silverthorne; Robert’s siblings, Encel Henning and Mary Branard.
