Robert Thorp

Robert C. Thorp, son of Orlo Thorp and Verna Teeples Thorp, was born December 28, 1928 and died October 25, 2004 at his home in Davis City, Iowa at the age of 75 years, 9 months and 27 days. Robert grew up in the rural Cooper area and attended school there. On February 7, 1948, he was united in marriage to Lois Moore. Robert and Lois made their home in rural Greene County. They were the parents of four children, Barb, Becky, Pat and Bill. Robert farmed and custom bailed hay all over Greene County. In 1977, he opened Thorp Sawmill & Pallet Company in rural Jefferson. In the spring of 2003, Robert and Lois moved to a farm in Decatur County, where he could watch his cattle grow, as was his lifelong dream. Robert was an outdoor sportsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He gained much enjoyment from cutting wood and woodworking, and made several pieces by hand that are cherished by his family. Robert is preceded in death by his parents, his mother and father-in-law, and grandson, Michael Estberg. He is survived by his wife, Lois; three daughters: Barb Murphy and her husband Dennis of Jefferson, Becky Estberg and her husband Michael of Crane, Missouri, Pat Scott and her companion Jerry Kuebler of Jefferson; son: Bill Thorp and his wife Brenda of Jefferson; 10 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; sisters: Dorothy Hamilton of Davenport, Sandra Battles and her husband Robert of Minneapolis, Minnesota; sister-in-law Elizabeth Marlow of Augusta, Kansas; other relatives and a host of friends.
