A service for Roberta Ann Scott was held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 16, 2014 at the United Methodist Church in Minburn, Iowa. Visitation was after 1:00 p.m. with family present 5-7 p.m. at Hastings Funeral Home in Perry. Pastor Cris Decious of the United Methodist Church in Minburn provided words of comfort. Casket bearers were Troy Meier, Tim Meier, Jena Villarreal, Joy Harper, Janelle Schuppner and Jamie Harmon. Organist was Mona Holmstrom. The song chosen was Beyond the Sunset. Congregational hymn was How Great Thou Art. Interment took place at Elmwood Cemetery in Minburn, Iowa. Following the service at the cemetery was a luncheon at the church. Roberta Ann Scott, daughter of Gladys Irene Borst and Raymond Earl Wernli was born March 20, 1934 in Yale, Iowa and died at Mercy West Lakes Medical Center on January 10, 2014 at the age of 79 years, 5 months and 28 days. She attended rural school in Lincoln Township and then to Dawson graduating in 1952. Roberta married Leonard "Buck" Scott at the Prairie Center Church on December 30, 1952 and then lived all her married life in Minburn. Roberta was a long distance telephone operator for Northwestern Bell in Perry and then West Des Moines for over thirty years before retiring. Roberta enjoyed reading, crocheting and embroidering and enjoyed all types of crafts. Roberta was a member of the Minburn United Methodist Church and American Legion Auxiliary. Roberta was preceded in death by her parents, husband "Buck", sister Phyllis and her husband Melvin Scott, nephew-in-law John Kirk, great nephew Dustin Villarreal and brothers-in-law Howard and James Scott. Roberta is survived by her brother Bernard Wernli (Ginger) of Sterling, IL; sister Carol Meier of Nevada); many nieces and nephews including Troy Meier (Marlene), Tim Meier (Denise), Jena Villarreal (David), Joy Harper (Bob), Janelle Schuppner and Jamie Harmon (Derek); brother-in-law Paul Scott (Kathy) of Nacogdoches, TX; sisters-in-laws Edith Frantum (Jack) of Perry and Linda Scott of Polk City;. Memorials in Roberta's name are suggested to the American Cancer Society, Minburn United Methodist Church or American Legion Auxiliary and may be sent to Hastings Funeral Home in Perry.hastingsfh@qwestoffice.net
