Rodney McFarland, 57, of Winterset, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, June, 27, 2021 at his home. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 1, 2021 at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home, Winterset Chapel. A funeral service will take place on Friday, July 2, 2021 at New Bridge Church in Winterset, beginning at 10:00 a.m. Rodney McFarland, also known to many as “Gumby”, was born on February 21, 1964, in Winterset to Jack and Niada (Honn) McFarland. He graduated from Winterset High School and had several different jobs before becoming a master plumber and owning his own business, Rod McFarland Plumbing. Rodney met and fell in love with Jennifer Sample and they married on September 2, 1995 at the First United Methodist Church in Winterset. The most important thing in Rodney’s life and his greatest accomplishment was his girls. He loved to take them camping, fishing, riding 4-wheelers, and anything outdoors. Rodney loved Middle River. He always said, "if it doesn’t have a motor, he ain’t ridin’". Rod worked as a master plumber for most of his life. He was very skilled in his trade and could fix just about anything. He was an incredibly hard worker and took great pride in his work. When he wasn’t working, he was likely out fishing his favorite spots. He was a fantastic storyteller, so good, that you couldn’t always tell if the story was true or false. He was also known to break out and bust a move, no matter the time or place, he danced. Rod was a hardworking man who would do anything to help another out and he will be extremely missed by all who knew him. Rod was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Niada McFarland; and brothers, Michael and Jerry McFarland. He is survived by his wife, Jennifer; daughters, Mackenzie and Sydney McFarland; brothers, Ricky and Geoffrey McFarland; and sisters, Pamela Sato, René Klingaman, and Becky McFarland; as well as many nieces and nephews.
