In 1983, Rick married Cindy Case, and they lived briefly in Waukee and Van Meter before settling in Adel for over 35 years. Rick’s wife, children, and grandchildren were his greatest loves. He enjoyed teasing and spoiling them all, and his grandchildren were especially fond of his tractor rides. Rick had a passion for John Deere tractors, old cars, and especially the ‘63 Chevy Impala. He never knew a stranger and loved to wheel and deal. Rick was well-known for his talent as a mechanic. He ran his own garage in Des Moines, and also worked as a mechanic for the Des Moines Fire Department and Midwest Ambulance before a 20-year career as the school bus mechanic for ADM Schools. Rick also loved a beautiful lawn, and spent much of his time manicuring his 11 acres of Kentucky bluegrass. He started mowing for clients in 1999, and quickly grew his business into a full-service lawn care company that he operated for over 20 years. Rick loved visiting with his clients and became good friends with many. Rick is survived by his wife of 39 years, Cindy; three daughters, Melissa (E. J.) Karp, Jessica (Jon Lint) Plotz, and Hannah (Sean Lemke) Borst; six grandchildren, Chelsie, Emilie, & Bailie Karp, and Gianna, Cora, & Daxton Plotz; two sisters, Char (Stu) Jorgensen, and Dawn (Brian Lincoln) Kacher; a brother, Chris (Sarah) Tollari; numerous extended family members, and countless friends. Rick was preceded in death by a brother, Mark Tollari, and his parents and step-parents, Pat & Don Tollari, and Harry Borst & Patty Bennett. Memorial donations may be directed to his family for future designation. Online condolences may be left at www.caldwellparrish.com
