Roland Charles Hyde

May 20, 1940 — March 3, 2023

Roland Charles (Chuck) Hyde, of Adel, passed away March 3, 2023 at the age of 82. A celebration of Chuck’s Life visitation will be held from 3:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M., Saturday, March 11, 2023 at Caldwell Parrish McCalley Chapel in Adel.

Chuck was born May 20, 1940 in Millbank, SD., the son of Roland and Wava Hyde. The family moved to Council Bluffs, IA, where Chuck went to school and graduated from high school. He went to South Dakota State College for two years and finished his career at Nebraska of Omaha University. He was active in track, football and basketball throughout his schooling.

After college, he worked at International Harvester in the southern states. From there he went to Northwestern Bell Telephone Co. and became a computer programmer in Omaha, NE. Later in his career, he was transferred to Des Moines, IA to become a manager at the 24–hr computer center in the accounting department. This is where he met his wife to be Peggy Walsh. They married in 1971, and formed a combined family of five children. They lived in Urbandale for a few years, but both were very fond of country living and moved to Redfield, IA on 42 Acres, and raised Peggy’s two children, along with many horses, dogs, and many tropical fish aquariums.

He was a man with multiple interests and hobbies. He loved hunting duck and pheasant. He liked playing golf and raising tropical fish. He raised several breeds of dogs and had lots of puppies.

In 1986, they were both transferred to Omaha, where they worked for four years. Northwestern Bell offered an early retirement, so Chuck and Peggy both retired in 1990 and moved back to Iowa. They built a home in Adel, IA on 13 acres where chuck raised horses, dogs and 52 tropical fish aquariums. They lived next to a golf course and a hunt club. Chuck got a job at Doc’s Hunt Club where he was taking care of the training dogs. He guided for many corporations and loved his job. He got into the dog competitions with his own dogs and won a national championship with his German Shorthair “Spice”. When the hunt club sold, Chuck enjoyed playing more golf and was asked to manage the Club House at Hillcrest. He loved this job and put his heart and soul into helping Hillcrest grow their finances. He loved meeting and working with all the members.

He adored his grandchildren, who were very athletic, and attended all their activities throughout their school years. Chuck was never really outgoing with small children, but had really grown fond of his two grand-daughters who lived close and their new babies. After his heart started failing, his health problems increased, but he still enjoyed his family and golfed as much as he could.

Chuck is survived by his wife of 52years Peggy, his stepdaughter Debbie (Jeff) Baker of Redfield, IA; stepson Matt Walsh of West Des Moines, IA; daughter Deborah (Bernard) of Council Bluffs, IA; daughter Jacque of Council Bluffs, IA; son Kent of Council Bluffs, IA; and sisters Barbara and Julie, also from Council Bluffs, IA. Chuck is also survived by nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
