Ronald Wayne Rickert, 75 of De Soto, formerly of rural Humeston, passed away at MercyOne Hospice in Johnston on March 8, 2022. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, March 14, 2022 at Caldwell Parrish Funeral – McCalley Chapel in Adel, with a visitation held one hour prior to the service. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 15, 2022 at the Humeston Cemetery located north of Humeston. The family request friends to dress casual for the service. Ronald Rickert was born April 1, 1946 to Roy and Louise (Opp) Rickert in Leon, IA. Ron graduated from Mormon Trail High School. Following high school, Ron gained his skills as a mechanic through trade schooling in Kansas City. After his time in trade school, Ron proudly served his country in the United States Army in the Vietnam War from 1966-1968. On February 3, 1968 in LeRoy, Iowa, Ron was united in marriage to Patricia Williams, and to this union three children were born, Michelle, Nicole and Clay. He raised his family in De Soto, Iowa where he was an auto mechanic for many years. Ron had many hobbies. He enjoyed nature and spending time fishing. He was famous around town for his passion for growing the best tomatoes in town and sharing with his community. He was a stock car enthusiast, where he loved to help his son-in-law work on his cars or just give him his thoughts on the sport. He was known for his regular trips across the street to hang out in the archery shop to get the scoop on the town activity. Ron loved to be around people and spending time with his friends, however, most of all he loved spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren and watching the grand kids sports. His legacy will continue on in the hearts of his wife, Patricia; daughter, Nicole (Jamie) Morey; son, Clay (Gretchen) Rickert; grandchildren, Devin, Savannah, Liv and Luke; sister, Charlene (Merle) Held; mother-in-law, Barb Williams; sister-in-law, Kay (Dennis) Middlebrook; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Michelle; father-in-law, Vern; nephew, Mike Middlebrook and niece, Staci Middlebrook.
