Ronny Hamner

Ronny Hamner, 72, of Winterset, Iowa, died Sunday, March 1, 2020, at MercyOne Medical Center West Lakes in West Des Moines, Iowa. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Friday, March 6, 2020, at the First Christian Church in Winterset with Rev. Kevin and Rev. Sue Blader officiating. Burial will be in the Winterset Cemetery. Ronny was born on December 15, 1947, at Winterset to George and Clara (Wagner) Hamner. He was a lifetime resident of Winterset and graduated from Winterset High School in 1967. On March 8, 1968, he married Patty Lou Allen at St. Charles, Iowa. Ronny was a retired gas serviceman for MidAmerican Energy having worked for them for 33 years. He and Patty loved to fish and camp, and were members of the Madison County Covered Bridge Camping Club. Ronny was a retired Winterset Firefighter having served for 30 years. After retirement from the gas company, Ronny and Patty worked together as volunteers at the Madison County Historical Society. As you drove through his neighborhood, Ronny was known for having the best kept lawn. Since the birth of his grandson, Reece, Ronny took him under his wing and they became best buddies. Patty said Ronny was the best husband a woman could have. Ronny is survived by his wife, Patty Hamner; children, Jody Hamner and Brian (Shannon) Hamner; brother-in-law, Gene Patterson; sister-in-law, Nancy Allen; and grandchildren, Reece Nuzum, Toby Hamner, and Olivia Hamner. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Clara (Wagner) Hamner; brother, Rex (and his wife Bev) Hamner; sister, Ruby Patterson; and brother-in-law, Ed Allen. Visitation will be Thursday from 3 to 7 PM at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home Winterset Chapel with family receiving friends from 5 to 7 PM. Memorials may be directed to the Madison County Historical Society. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home Winterset Chapel.
