Rosemarie Van Dyck’s spirit was released on March 10, 2017 and is now reveling in the reunion with her loving parents and siblings, family, friends from all walks of life, and her beloved pets of all breeds. Born in Des Moines, Iowa on October 9, 1930 to Eugene and Katherine Van Dyck, Rosemarie attended St. Joseph’s Academy and then proceeded to excel academically by continuing her education at Clark College and the University of Madrid. She achieved doctoral status at the University of Madrid and then proudly returned to the States as Dr. Rosemarie Van Dyck PhD. She then began work at Drake University, where she loved her tenure as head of the foreign language department and they loved her! Rosemarie’s love for teaching and her unique camaraderie with her academic community left its everlasting mark on countless students, too many to list. From the inception of the Foreign Language For the Young program at Drake University to the firm belief in teaching all languages “immersion style”, Rosemarie influenced so many to better themselves and their futures through education, travel abroad, and culture. Rosemarie held a lifelong love affair with teaching, her pool parties, travel, ALL things Spanish, good martinis, her cigarillos, long relaxing dinners with friends, her beloved pets and her most cherished father, mother, brother (Eugene), and Sister (Cecelia) - both whom preceded her in death. Her nieces and nephews, great and small held such a dear place in her heart and she treated them all like royalty! She had loved ones so close and so far, and the family would like to invite everyone who was blessed to cross paths with Rosemarie, to a Celebration of Life Service on April 1 at 1pm, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. In Lieu of flowers, Rosemarie asked that donations be made in her name to the Animal Rescue League and Holy Trinity Catholic Church.
