Rosie Waltz, 86, of Winterset died Wednesday, November 9, 2011 at the Winterset Care Center South. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m., Sunday, November 13, 2011 at the First United Presbyterian Church in Winterset. A visitation will be held 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Saturday, November 12, 2011 at Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare, Winterset. Burial will be in the Winterset Cemetery. Rosie Ruth Fleener was born May 4, 1925 in Adair County, Iowa; the daughter of Obie and Corda (Wildey) Fleener. She married Eugene “Gene” LeRoy Waltz on July 1, 1945 at the Methodist Church Parsonage in Winterset and to this union a son, Larry was born. Both Gene and Larry preceded her in death, Gene in January of 2003 and Larry in January of 1998. Rosie’s first job in Winterset was at the Club Café. She also worked payroll for Farmers Creamery, and held various jobs in Des Moines and Winterset, including the Winterset Care Center North where she worked for 10 years. In addition to being an excellent cook, Rosie was also well known for her cake decorating abilities having professionally created cakes for many local weddings, special occasions and events. She was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church and the VFW Auxiliary. She was also an avid bowler having won many bowling trophies. She is survived by a brother, Cecil Fleener (Virginia) of Rancho Palos Verdes, California; two sisters, Dortha Reynolds (Robert) of Lenox and Esther Rynearson (Jessie “Red”) of Lorimor; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gene; a son, Larry; and three sisters, Beatrice Fleener, Audrey Nelson and Frances Schleiffarth.
