Roy Irvin Essing

Roy Essing was born to William Assing and Margaret McLaughlin on Dec. 3, 1933, in Manson, Iowa. He grew up in the Manson and Pomeroy, Iowa area. After his mother remarried, his stepfather, Hie Kleen helped to raise him. Roy graduated from Manson High School in 1952. He was in the Air Force 52-54 and was stationed in Texas, Arizona, and Georgia. In 1959, he married Betty Bockoven. They had 1 son Bret and 1 daughter Sherri. After their marriage ended, he married Eileen Bauman in 1971. They had 1 daughter Lori. Roy worked for Oscar Mayer for 25 years. When that company left Perry, he went to college and graduated from DMACC in Ankeny with an associates degree in small business management. He worked at Fareway Meat Department until his retirement. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, helping friends and family, watching television, and riding motorcycles. Roy passed away Sept. 19, 2023. Roy was preceded in death by his father William Assing, mother Margaret Kleen, stepfather Hie Kleen, wife Eileen Essing, brothers Lowell Essing and Gary Kleen, sisters Donna Staples and Krystal Kleen, mother-in-law Gladys and father-in-law Ernest Bauman brothers-in-law Russell Staples and Richard Hanson, great-grandson Christian Lawton, nephew Steven Essing, niece Leslie Staples, great-nephew Nick Rude, and great-niece Dinine Anderson. Survivors include son Bret (Tammy) Essing, daughters Sherri (Pete) Aiken and Lori (Jamie) Eiteman, grandsons Jeremy (Yvonne), Josh (Haley), and Joel (Lynnette) Lawton, granddaughters Miranda and Samantha Essing, great-grandsons Clayton, Justin, Justus, Trenton, Jacob, Nathaniel, Parker, Emmett, and Brentley Lawton, great-granddaughter Addilyn Lawton, great-great-granddaughter NovaLynn, great-great-grandson Knoxton, sister Juanita Hanson, sisters-in-law Beverly Essing and Susan Kleen, aunt Dorothy Huston, friend Mary Lou Runke, and many nieces and nephews.
