A service for Russell James Coil was held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 7, 2014 at Hastings Funeral Home in Jefferson. Visitation was after 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 6, 2014 with family present from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Bruce Webster of the Church of Christ provided words of comfort. Honorary casket bearers were: Neal Squibb, Doug Majerus, Butch Ganoe and Lyle Brinker. Recorded music chosen was Wings Of A Snow White Dove, Amazing Grace and Happy Trails To You. After the service was a luncheon at the Church of Christ in Jefferson. Russell James Coil, son of Marion Coil and Mildred Bedford Coil, was born July 6, 1937 in Jefferson, Iowa and died October 3, 2014 at his home in Jefferson, Iowa at the age of 77. Russ grew up in Jefferson. Russ at a very early age set pins at the bowling alley while in school. He also worked for the railroad. He was one of the first employees of Bill Sorenson, which started a long career with American Athletic until retiring. After retirement he worked with Ed Gose on the farm. Russell enjoyed fishing, hunting and his dogs T. Bone and Poppy. He loved playing "Bingo" and watching WWE wrestling. He was a member of the United Auto Workers Union. Russ and Annie Tingle were united in marriage in 1984 and they enjoyed 30 years together. Russell was preceded in death by his parents Marion and Mildred Coil; Mark Schroeder; brother Marion Albert (Mary Ann) Coil; sisters Betty (Clarence) Haberman, Melba Majerus, Marcella & Nick Iorga and Nedri (Tommy) Cummings. Russ is survived by his wife Annie; children Albert (Nadine) Coil of McCallsburg, IA; Jimmy Coil of Georgia, David (Melanie) Coil of Indianapolis, Indiana; Rickey Tingle, of Branson, Missouri; Nora (Mark) Long of Jefferson, IA; Carol Christy of Georgetown, Texas; and Michael (Ashley) Coil, of Jefferson, IA; grandchildren: Shane, Stefanie, DeAnn, Chad, Jenny, Michael, Ashley, Ericca, , Jennica, Justine, Jordan, Lori, Allen, Brian, Andi, Kaitlyn, Mia, McKenzie, Ethan, Ava, many very special great-grandchildren; also special children he helped raise Matt (Lisa) Schroeder of Jefferson, Marty (Kay) Schroeder, of Lohrville, Mike Collner of Becker, Minnesota and Jennifer (Rebecca) Custer of Carroll; brothers Harry (Marietta) Coil and Bob (Marilyn) Coil and sister Alberta Coil all of Jefferson; brother-in-law Doug Majerus; nieces; nephews; other relatives and many friends.
