Ruth C. Porter

9599Ruth Carolyn Porter, daughter of George Vail Ross and Olive Frances Storm Ross, was born July 31, 1922 in Perry, Iowa and died August 18, 2009 at Regency Park Nursing and Rehab in Jefferson, Iowa. Ruth graduated from Bagley High School in 1939 and then attended Iowa State Teachers College (now UNI) at Cedar Falls, IA for three years. Ruth married Howard Porter February 4, 1946 in Waukee, IA. They were parents of two daughters, Kathy and Liisa. Ruth was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She beamed when she met her great- granddaughter Aurelia Vail Wand this year. Ruth enjoyed needlework, sewing, reading, and working cross word puzzles. She enjoyed trying new recipes. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and Rachel Circle of the United Methodist Women. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents Vail and Olive Ross, her sister Marian Gardiner, 3 infant brothers, and husband Howard on April 2, 2008. Ruth is survived by her daughters Kathy Porter of Cedar Falls, IA and Liisa Wand and husband Jeff of Preston, MN; grandchildren Shannin Porter of Chicago, IL; Zachary Wand and his wife Rachel of Minneapolis, MN; Chelsea Wand of Rochester, MN; and great granddaughter Aurelia Vail Wand. She is also survived by her step-mother Clarice Ross of Perry, IA; brother, Gary Ross and his wife Liz of Perry, IA; sister Marge Coyne of Jefferson, IA; brother-in-law Robert Porter and his wife Pat of Bagley, IA; sisters-in-law Marcella Barlage and her husband Roy of Jefferson, IA; and Eleanore Mobley of Paton, IA; other relatives and friends.
