Ruth Young

Ruth Alice (McAllister) Young, 86, of Ventura, CA, passed away Tuesday, December 19th, 2023, of complications due to cancer at the Victoria Care Center in Ventura, CA.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, December 29th, at the Zion Faith Lutheran Church, Madison County Historical Complex (815 2nd Ave, Winterset), where family will greet friends at the church from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, (9100 S. Orilla Rd, Cumming).

Ruth was born to Francis Joseph McAllister Sr. and Alice Amelia (Roach) McAllister on May 10th, 1937, at home in Jefferson Township, Madison County, IA. She graduated from Van Meter High School in 1955, and from Mercy College School of Nursing in 1959. Ruth and her husband Robert “Bob” married in November 1959, and moved to Los Angeles, CA, where she worked for the Veterans Hospital and the offices of Dr. Kantola and Dr. Clifford in Santa Monica, CA, before moving to Ventura, CA, in 1969.

Ruth was a homemaker for many years, and enjoyed reading, crafts, sewing, knitting, crochet, embroidery, gardening, bird watching, bicycling, going to the movies, and being with her daughter and grandchildren.

Ruth is survived by her daughter, Kiana (Evin) Grant; grandchildren, Aedyn Grant and Kayleigh Grant; brother, Francis J. McAllister Jr.; and sister, Mary Swanson.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Francis and Alice (Roach) McAllister; her husband, Robert “Bob” (Macklin) Young; her brother, Russell and wife, Alice Lander; her brother, Harold “Bill” and wife, Bonnie Lander, her sister-in-law, Luana McAllister; her brother-in-law, Gary Swanson; her brother-in-law, Richard Young; and her brother-in-law, Gary Young.
