Sandra “Sandy” Kay Deets passed away on March 20, 2025, at home surrounded by her family. She was 62 years old.
Sandy fought a brave, gracious and courageous fight after being diagnosed with glioblastoma (an aggressive malignant brain tumor) in May, 2023.
A visitation will be held at St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church in Carlisle, IA (2566 Scotch Ridge Rd) on Monday, Mar 24, 2025, from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., with a Celebration of Life to follow at 2:00 p.m.
Sandy was born on February 18, 1963, in Manchester, IA to James and Lavon Domeyer. Sandy was raised and educated in Manchester, Iowa, at St. Mary’s Catholic School and the West Delaware school district. She attended Hamilton Business College in Mason City, IA. After finishing her education, she worked at Farmer’s Merchants Bank, then began her 33-year career with the United States Postal Service.
On April 25, 1992, Sandy was united in marriage to Randy Deets. Together they lived in Cedar Rapids, IA briefly before moving to Carlisle, IA to work for the Des Moines Post Office, where Sandy worked in the In Plant Support Department.
Sandy enjoyed her family and friends, reading, baking, putting puzzles together as well as hiking and exploring local parks.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Lavon and other much-loved cousins, friends and relatives.
Survivors include her beloved husband, Randy; step-daughters, Randi Deets of Clive, IA and Sara Valen of Mason City, IA; her brothers, Russ (Gretchen), Steven (Janet) both from Asbury, IA, Bob of Dubuque, IA; sisters, Cindy Downs (Randy Wittman) of Greeley, IA and Becky of Manchester, IA, plus many nieces and nephews.
