Saveria "Sarah" Scorpiniti Bonanno

Saveria "Sarah" Scorpiniti Bonanno, known affectionately as "Nani", passed away peacefully Sunday, June 10, 2018, at Kavanagh House while praying the rosary. A visitation with family will be from 4:00 pm- 7:00 pm Thursday June 14, 2018 at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home in Urbandale, Iowa followed by a Rosary at 7:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday June 15, 2018 at 10:00 am at St. Francis of Assisi Parish in West Des Moines, Iowa. Burial will follow at Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines, Iowa. Saveria was born May 29, 1932, in Terravecchia, Italy to Saverio Scorpiniti and Isabella Vulcano. Saveria married Pasquale Giuseppe Bonanno in Terravecchia, Italy in 1959. In 1961, Saveria boarded the Leonardo da Vinci and immigrated to the United States to join her husband who had arrived one year earlier. Above all, her faith and love of her family dominated her life. Nani was an inspirational and extraordinary figure in the lives of her family, who are a source of great pride and joy. Her home was always full of love for all who entered. She loved to spend time with her family, pray the rosary, cook, bake, garden and knit. Saveria was a devout Catholic who prepared her entire life to meet her savior Jesus Christ. She is survived by her daughter Liliana (Eric) Waters; grandchildren: Jena (Andrew) Blize, Bailey Waters, and Nicholas Waters; great grandchild, Lily Blize; Brother, Vincenzo Scorpiniti of Terravecchia, Italy; and many nieces and nephews in Italy and the United States. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughters, Isabella and Domenica Bonanno; brothers, Domenico, Antonio and Francesco Scorpiniti.
