Hastings Funeral Home in Perry is in charge of arrangements for Sharon Mae Bates, 77, of Windsor Heights and formerly of Perry. Sharon died October 27, 2021 at Urbandale Health Care Center. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Sunday, October 31, 2021 at Hastings Funeral Home with family present from 5-7 p.m. Funeral Services will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, November 1, 2021 also at the funeral home. Burial will take place in the Rippey Cemetery. Sharon Mae Bates, daughter of George Edward Wilson and Mary Alice Hale Wilson, was born September 1, 1944 in Detroit, Michigan. Sharon and her family moved to Iowa when she was two years old. She graduated from Perry High School in 1963. Sharon met the love of her life Edwin LeRoy Bates III and the two were united in marriage on June 7, 1963 in Des Moines, Iowa. The couple was blessed with three children Susan, Edwin IV and Donald. Sharon and her family lived in the Des Moines area where she worked for Shelter & State Farm Insurance Companies. She enjoyed reading, crocheting, going camping with her family, and bowling. Sharon loved listening to music, especially Elvis songs, but what she loved most was her time with family. She worked for Polk County Child Care Resource Center for nineteen years and helped so many families during that time. Sharon was preceded in death by her parents George and Mary, her husband Edwin LeRoy III in 2009, and her grandson Matthew in 1993. She is survived by her daughter Susan Bates-Staudt (Terry) of Rockford, IA, Edwin Bates IV (Lisa) of Waukee, and Donald Bates of West Des Moines; eleven grandchildren: Jake Staudt, Jarrod Buhr (Kylie) of Charlotte, NC, Chelsea Bates of Urbandale, Zachary Bates of Minnesota, Amanda Jazwinski (Jacob) of Stuart, Allison Bates of Cedar Falls, Ashley Bates of Des Moines, Donald Bates Jr. of Des Moines, Gabriel Bates of Waukee, Arianna Bates of Altoona, and Dakota Bates of Altoona; great-granddaughter Madison Jazwinski; great-grandson (on the way) Oliver Jazwinski; brother John Wilson (Peggy) of Perry; cousin Betty Mae Martin of Millsap, TX, other relatives and many friends.
