Shawn Marchant

A service was held for Shawn Marchant 2:00 p.m. on Thursday June 23, 2011 at Hastings Funeral Home in Perry. Words of comfort were provided by Rev. Mark Holmes of Mt Olivet Lutheran Church in Perry, Iowa. The casket bearers were Gary Clouse, Jeff Clouse, Craig Clouse, Scott Clouse, Shane Pote, Chad Ratcliff, Ryan Ratcliff, and Ken Gustin. Honorary casket bearers were Zach Clouse and Bruce Duff. Music was provided by organist Jan Pattee. Burial was at Violet Hill Cemetery in Perry, Iowa with a balloon launch by the employees of Hy Vee. After the burial there was a luncheon at the Elks Lodge in Perry. Shawn Aaron Marchant, son of Cynthia Clouse and Eric Marchant, was born November 23, 1977 in Jefferson, Iowa, and died June 18, 2011 at the Dallas County Hospital in Perry, Iowa, at the age of 33. Shawn attended school in Linden, Panora, and Perry. He graduated from Perry High School. During high school Shawn started working at Hy Vee . He was very proud to work there and continued working there as a courtesy clerk until the fall of 2010. Shawn made many, many friends during the course of his career at Hy Vee. He was always very kind and thoughtful to the store patrons and the rest of the store's staff. Shawn loved his family very much and always enjoyed family gatherings. He always enjoyed running the tractor, using the backhoe, cutting down trees, and mowing. Texting became very special to him. Shawn enjoyed sporting events and the Hawkeyes were his favorite teams. Shawn was also a NASCAR fan and enjoyed watching races. Pawn Stars, Deadliest Catch, Undercover Boss, and Orange County Choppers were some of his favorite television shows. Working at his uncle's farm on the John Deere tractor was his ultimate joy. Shawn was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Gerald Clouse and Rex Marchant, grandmother Dee Johnson as well as great-grandmother Opal Johnson. Shawn is survived by his parents Cynthia Marchant and Dan Johnson of Berkley; father Eric Marchant of Earlham; grandmothers Mildred Marchant of Panora and Esther Clouse of Panora; grandfather Robert "Sonny" Johnson of Berkley; uncles and aunts, Gary Clouse of Hoytt, KS; Jeff Clouse of Pleasant Hill, MO; Marsha Pote of Grimes; Craig Clouse ( Kari) of Panora; Robin Ratcliff (Jerry) of Panora; Scott Clouse (Brenda) Grimes; Lisa Eblen of Adair; Kelly Clouse (Chris) of Des Moines; Sheila Hilsenbeck (Duane) of Ogden; Bob "Wolfie" Johnson of Perry; Candy Van Meter of Berkley; Rexana Ketelsen (Mike) of Linden; Jean Hanes (Charles) of Stuart; Cindy Shook (Darrell) of Panora; Jeri Gettler (Tim) of Jefferson; Randy Marchant (Sharon) of Stuart; Scott Marchant of Phoenix, AZ; Joey Marchant (Lyn) of Waukee; many great aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.
