Sheldon C. Devereaux

Sheldon C. Devereaux, 74, of Winterset died Wednesday, February 23, 2011 in Phoenix, Arizona. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, March 12, 2011 at the First United Methodist Church of Winterset where Pastor Beverlee Bell will officiate. A visitation will be held from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday, March 11, 2011 at Ochiltree Funeral Service where the family will be present to receive friends from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m.. Burial will be in the Winterset Cemetery and memorials may be directed to the Methodist Church or Cardiac Rehabilitation at the Madison County Health Care System. Sheldon Corey Devereaux was born August 21, 1936 in rural Kendall County, Illinois, the son of Richard Corey and Ora (Hauge) Devereaux. He graduated from Newark High School, Newark, Illinois and married Peggy L. Francis on June 16, 1956 in Sandwich, Illinois. The couple had two children, Lorrie and Jeff, and were married for 54 years. Sheldon worked as a Territory Representative for Kent Feeds for many years and after he retired he found he needed something to do so he worked an additional 10 years for the Winterset FS delivering diesel fuel. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Lakeview Country Club where he had served as president. He was also a member of the Winterset Boosters, Lions and Jaycees. Sheldon and Peggy wintered in Arizona for 14 years and spending time in Arizona allowed Sheldon to take part in many rounds of golf and flying his remote control planes. Both hobbies he had a great love for as well as fishing which took him on many fishing adventures. He is survived by his wife, Peggy of Winterset; his son, Jeff Devereaux and his wife, Marilea of Ankeny; his daughter, Lorrie Drake and her husband, Jerry of Winterset; his four sisters; Carolyn Wildey of Minooka, Illinois; Shirley Dix and her husband, Don of Morris, Illinois; Ardis Peterson and her husband, Bob of Platteville, Illinois; Alice Olson and her husband, Jeff of Sandwich, Illinois; 6 grandchildren, David (Holly) Drake; Donnie Drake; Kellie (Tyler Gehringer) Drake; Morgan(Chris) Mund; Lauren Devereaux and Trenton Devereaux and a great grandson, Jackson Drake. Sheldon was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Donna Jean Devereaux and a brother, Donald Devereaux.
