Shelley Lynette Cherry

Shelley Lynette Cherry, 66, of Urbandale, IA, passed away March 27, 2017, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, IA, following complications from heart surgery. Shelley was born on October 30, 1950, in Montezuma, KS, to the late Walter and Wanda Lewis. Shelley married Dale Cherry in 1975, and together they raised their two daughters in Overland Park, KS, before moving to Urbandale, IA, in 2003. Shelley enjoyed gardening, cooking, playing bridge, and collecting many “things.” In addition to her husband, children and grandchildren, Shelley’s passion was caring for the furry members of her family, which included several rescue cats and dogs through the years. She was particularly fond of a sweet dog named Tipper who was her loyal companion for 14 years. She is preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Ron Lewis. Shelley is survived by her husband Dale; daughters, Allison (Kenny) Friedrich of Independence, MO, and Angela (Alex Harris) Cherry of Seattle, WA; four grandchildren, Kennison, Colton, and Cerise Friedrich, and Lewis Harris; two brothers, Richard and Kyle Lewis; aunt Ellen Verrell; and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 31, at Mount Moriah, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, MO. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the American Heart Association or the Animal Rescue League of Iowa.
