It is with great sadness that the family of Sherri Rossiter, beloved mother of four children and Nana of four grandchildren and one great-grandchild, announce her passing at her home on Sunday, May 3, 2020. Sherri was born March 19, 1950, in Mason City, Iowa, the daughter of Jeannette Einertson and the late LaVerne Einertson. She was preceded in death by her husband Fred (Dick) Galkin, her second husband Dennis Rossiter, her step-father William (Bill) Hopes, and her sister Annie Evans. Sherri lived in Le Sueur, Minnesota for most of her youth. She lived in several places during her life, and for the last 15 years resided in Des Moines, IA. Sherri returned to college at age 39 to pursue a degree in Psychology, and graduated from Buena Vista University with a Bachelor’s Degree. This allowed her to be a social worker and pursue her passion of helping others. She had a huge impact on so many lives - even after she retired, many people she worked with over the years would still keep in contact with her. Sherri was an active member of Cornerstone Church in Des Moines, and supported several Christian faith-based organizations. A testament to her faith was her collection of angel figurines, and her cat named Angel. Sherri was a good artist and liked to sing. She also supported the local thrift stores; one of her favorite things to do was find good bargains! Above all, however, Sherri loved spending time with her family and friends. Sherri is survived by her mother, Jeanette Hopes (DeMaris), her sisters Linda Coil and Lori Casey, her brother Gary Einertson, her children Roxanne Galkin, Jason Rossiter, Robin Moriarity, Michelle O’Rourke, her grandchildren Anthony Moriarity, Avery Moriarity, Meressa Moriarity, Dakota Rossiter, and her great-grandchild Xavier Rossiter. Our mom was a generous, loving, compassionate person who was kind to everyone she met. She chose to see the good in life and in everyone she encountered. Her positive outlook led her through trying times in her life. Mom always did what she thought was best for her kids and grandkids, and made many sacrifices for her family. She did the best she could to teach and guide us, and she was at her happiest when we were happy. Our family would like to give special recognition to mom’s good friends and the members of her church who supported her through the years. Thank you for helping take care of the person we loved so much. A celebration of life will be held for Sherri later this year. If you’d like further information on the future date, please direct inquiries to Roxy Galkin at galkinroxanne@gmail.com . Condolence correspondence can be sent to Roxy Galkin at 2618 Prospect Rd, Des Moines, IA 50310, or to Michelle O’Rourke at 1114 E. North Street, Algona, IA, 50511. Sherri was a bright light in this world, and she will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
