Shirley Ann (Pittman) Appenzeller, 92, of Perry, IA passed away on June 11, 2024 at the Perry Lutheran Home.
Shirley was born May 31,1932 to Blanche Pittman and Roy Pittman. Shirley grew up in Jamaica, IA and graduated from Jamaica High School, where she performed in plays and served as the manager for the basketball team. She worked as a telephone operator until she retired in 1986. After retirement, she worked at Noah’s Ark Preschool.
Shirley married Andrew Appenzeller on July 29, 1967 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Perry. They had one daughter, Terry. Shirley enjoyed traveling with Andy after their retirement. They traveled to Germany, Switzerland, and Jamaica, while also visiting family in Alabama and North Carolina.
Shirley moved to North Carolina in 2004 to be closer to her three granddaughters; Amanda, Rachel, and Stephanie. Shirley kept herself busy while in North Carolina volunteering at General Greene Elementary School.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and siblings; Mae, Earl, Betty,
Junior, Lois, and Lila. Survivors include daughter, Terry Lake and her husband William of Adel; three granddaughters; Amanda Louise Lake-White (Wes White), Rachel Lynn Lake, and Stephanie Rose Lake, two great-grandchildren; Lorelei Jade Lake-White, and Richard William Lake-White, one sister: Joyce Donnelly, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
A visitation for Shirley will be held from 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm on Friday, June 14, 2024 at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home Perry Chapel. A funeral service will begin at 2:30 pm at the funeral home, with burial to follow at Violet Hill Cemetery. Online condolences can be made to the family at caldwellparrish.com.
