Shirley Ann Petro

Shirley Ann Petro, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 8, 2023, at the age of 80. Born on November 6, 1942, near Perry, Iowa, she was the daughter of Harry Henry and Gladys Irene (Charlet) Sheets.

Growing up near Perry, Shirley attended a country school, where she developed a strong foundation for learning and a deep appreciation for the simple joys of life. On this journey, she met and married Frank Petro to this union they had 6 children.

Shirley's nurturing spirit was evident in her role as a dedicated mother. Her family was her heart's treasure, and she poured her love and energy into raising her children with care and kindness. She found joy in simple pleasures like crocheting, knitting, and tending to her garden.

Family was the cornerstone of Shirley's life. She was a pillar of strength and wisdom, offering unwavering support to her children: Cindy Phipps, Donald Petro, Connie Petro, Harold Petro, and Mike Petro. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren, Anthony Joynes, Joseph Joynes, Alisha Mullens, and Justin Joynes, who were fortunate to experience her boundless love. Shirley's impact echoed further through her 17 great-grandchildren, who will carry her spirit into the future.

Shirley's memory lives on in the hearts of her surviving siblings, Patricia Charlet, Dicky (Sheryl) Sheets, and Ronnie (Darcy) Sheets, and in the countless nieces and nephews who were blessed by her presence.

While we mourn the loss of Shirley, we also celebrate the reunion she shares with those who preceded her in death. She is now reunited with her son Kenneth Petro, her parents, and her siblings: Roy Hurd, Bobby Hurd, Jerry Sheets, Johnny Sheets, Jackie Sheets, and Diana Zenor. Their spirits intertwine in the fabric of the universe, and their love continues to guide and comfort those left behind.

A funeral service for Shirley will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, August 15, 2023, at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home & Crematory in Adel. Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 2:00 PM. Interment will be in Panther Creek Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials be directed to the family.
