Shirley went to be with the Lord July 2, 2019 after dealing with many chronic heart issues for several years. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 6, 2019 at the First Christian Church in Adel with burial at Oakdale Cemetery. Family will greet friends from 9:30 a.m. until service time. Shirley Ann Hayes was born to Homer Lloyd and Eleanor Gelene (Hartman) Hayes on September 20, 1939 in Iowa City, Iowa. She lived most of her life in Adel, Iowa. She attended Adel school, graduating in 1957. In school she participated in numerous activities; including music, basketball, and Future Homemakers (FHA). Shirley developed a love and respect for music early in life, sharing music in many ways with her family; singing and playing instruments. In 1958 she married Harold Dwinell, they celebrated 61 years together. To this marriage 4 children were born. Shirley made her best effort to attend all their musical and sporting events. When 7, she started attending Sunday School at First Christian Church, dedicating her life to Jesus at the age of 12. She served her church in many ways as teacher, leader and committee member. The Angel Choir and Kids Closet were two of her favorite church activities. Shirley held many service jobs during her life, the secretary in the De Soto Intermediate building for 31 years. Shirley was delighted in working with and being around children. Left to cherish her memory, are, her husband Harold; her children; LouAnn (Robert) Snodgrass, LoriLea (David) Carlon, Lynne (Jory) Hire, Lance Dwinell; sisters: Jean Hayes, Judi Lahart, Lorraine (Steve) Hansen; Grandchildren: Adam, Sean, Jordon, Justin, Miranda, Jared, Derek, Hannah, Josh, Ruthann, Jennifer; and Great Grandchildren: Addison, Aiden, Bennett, Emma, Sterling, Maebellyne, Sapphyre, Frances, Sophia, Cera. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents Lloyd “Slim” Hayes and Gelene Hayes McElfish.
