Shirley Marker, 84 of Dexter, Iowa; Mission, Texas; and longtime resident of Adel, Iowa; passed away Sunday, January 12, 2020 at the Stuart Community Care Center in Stuart. Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Friday, January 17th at the First Christian Church in Adel with burial following at Oakdale Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, January 16th at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home – McCalley Chapel in Adel where family will greet friends from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. Shirley was born on June 19, 1935 in Union, Nebraska to William and Edith (Bicknell) Slatten. On August 1, 1954, she married Jerald R. Marker. Together they had three children and also took on the guardianship of Scott Smith. She graduated from Adel Community School. Shirley like to crochet, knit, do crafts, ceramics, camping, playing piano and organ, dance and family get togethers. She was a member of Eastern Star and Red Hats, and active in church dinners. She is survived by her children, Debra A. (Ralph) Sheets of Riggins, ID; Jeffrey A. (Diana) Marker of Adel; Terri L. (Kim) Jones of Dexter; Scott Smith of Texas; six grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; her sister, Lorraine Eyre; her stepbrother, Fred Steigleder; and her significant other of eleven years, Paul Hayden, whom she spent winters with in Mission, Texas. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerald; her parents, William and Edith Slatten; her brother, Ron Slatten; sister, Evelyn Foster; and stepbrother, Ron Steigleder.
