Stanley McGuire, 78, of West Des Moines, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Tuesday, March 19, 2024.
Stan was born on July 3, 1945 to Ray and Gladys (Bennett) McGuire in Des Moines, Iowa. He was a 1963 graduate from North High School in Des Moines. He retired from Pittsburgh Des Moines Steele in 2010 and then worked part-time for O’Reilly Auto parts store for several years. Stan met Lori Grimes at Porky’s Restaurant in 1992 and they married June 25, 2012. A highlight of Stan and Lori’s lives was when they got the chance to travel Route 66 with a photographer.
Stan enjoyed all things cars. He was a member of the Mopar Car Club and was often referred to as the Mopar Man. He loved to attend car shows and show off his 1969 Roadrunner Convertible. His other notable favorites over the years were his ‘68 Hemi Duster, ‘68 Hemi GTX, both of which he used to drag race, and a ‘70 Daytona.
Stan’s entire life was devoted to cars. For over 55 years, Stan attended many car shows, drag races, and car club events. Stan had many car friends, young and old, and he knows they will miss him very much. Up until his passing, Stan was happy to have his mind and always referenced his vast knowledge of cars.
Stan is survived by his two daughters, Kim (Norbert) Juist of Chandler, AZ, and Michele McGuire of Ankeny; grandchildren, Morgan Terry, Kyle Juist, Abby Juist, and Libby Juist; brothers, Chuck (Charlotte) McGuire of Des Moines, and Jim (Jackie) McGuire of Evanston, IL; and many nieces, nephews and extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lori; and his siblings, Marcia Viertel, Bob McGuire, and Mike McGuire.
At this time, no services are planned. A celebration of life will take place in the spring and burial will be in the Oakdale Cemetery in Adel next to his wife, Lori. Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.caldwellparrish.com.
